N. Dharam Singh also Dharam Singh Narayan Singh was a seasoned politician who served as the 17th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2004 to 2006. An influential leaders in the state he won seven straight Assembly election terms from the Jewargi constituency in Karnataka. He also served as Member of Parliament representing Bidar in the 14th Lok Sabha.
Born in 1936 at Nelogi village in Kalaburgi district, he began his political career as a corporator in Gulbarga district. He joined Congress party in late 1960's and remained its staunch loyalist. With the support of the people he won seven straight Assembly election terms from the Jewargi constituency in Karnataka. In his long political career he served under various chief ministers and hold many important portfolios like home, revenue, excise, urban development, public works and social welfare. N.Dharm Singh served as 17th Chief Minister of Karnataka and headed the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government from May 2004 to February 2006. His government collapsed following the withdrawal of support by the JD(S).
He passed away on 27th July 2017 due to cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 80. Singh is survived by his wife and two sons.
